Despite having much more strong winds, there is a culture, different than in europe, to build houses out of some cardboard and wood.
In europe you can lose the roof, in USA you can become homeless.
Of course this is to lower the price. Houses usually have less stories, flatter roof(less snow), poor window and wall insulation.
Even if you invest more to make it smarter - people used to change their address a lot.
And if you travel you probably bring your own preference to a different place.
It’s going the other way around
I have heard about new houses that are built with more material if you choose clay roof - to support the weight.
And there are tenements with very thin walls in which you can’t fart too loud. Even one that was meant to be a luxury because of bigger balcony and a little more space.
It’s like with these japanese 20m² homes that are smaller than stuff poor people used to live in, but you pay like for a house because it looks cool.
It’s not like everything is built better in europe, but in usa the trends are to build out of shit, despite the winds that destroy almost everything.
I wonder if they really have more money. Maybe on paper.
