If crypto is bad for the environment, advertisement is much worse.

Void linux removed cryptocurrency packages from official repos. Mozilla no longer receives crypto donations.

Online ads

Online ads waste your internet bandwidth, electricity, cpu and personal time for such a stupidly amount of money, that the electricity spent is more expensive than what the advertisement company gets for a single view.
It’s powered by people who believe that amount of views on an ad directly translates to a higher number of customers.

I haven’t bought anything significant that i otherwise wouldn’t buy just because of an ad in like last 5 years.

Also the content of ads is often inappropriate and it’s not controlled in any way. It often shows porn, even i have seen that.

Ads are the force pushing private companies to collect as much data about its customers(cattle) as possible. The government later uses your tax money to buy that data.

Ad companies are like one of the least socially benefiting companies in the world after porn companies and american health insurance companies.

The government is also using their own systems for spying on all citizens no matter if you’re in China or USA.

IRL advertisements are not much better

Big and flashy ads make ugly cities and increase amount of road accidents.

Some bad things

There have been devices and chips manufactured solely to mine a coin and nothing else. It may be bad.

All proof of work systems are based on processing power and systems that don’t use it are always more energy efficient.

There are alternatives to proof of work but they are still unpopular, and have downsides.

You can lose money if you believe in every single crypto scam and invest in it.

But it’s not crypto’s fault

The whole financial system runs on proprietary software and it’s controlled by the government(naturally, it has to be controlled by a single entity). KYC requires the customers of financial institutions to identify, in order to make an account. You can get debanked for criticsm of (((someone))), in cashless countries that would effectively make you poor and without money for food and transport. This one is a different problem because physical cash is still necessary for reliability above all, but if it goes away, then crypto would be even more necessary, just unavoidable.

Money can be printed like monopoly money or chocolate coins.
Let’s say you invest money at 6% return, and then the government decides to print more money, and raise inflation to 15%. You would be better off spending that money quickly instead of saving or investing.

joker

Nothing can be based on money, prices and wages have to be updated, selling used items is a huge loss, people can’t compare prices easily. And the funny thing is that apparently wages don’t go up very quickly.

Unless there is a better alternative that reduces problems at least in some areas, i will never agree that cryptocurrencies in principle are bad.

You know, having an army is expensive and baaad for the environment, but they serve a purpose. We still didn’t invent a better way of solving problems than killing each other because the average person isn’t smart enough.

Having a gun, a car etc. all these things you are being told they are bad. But they are not.
You know it’s not a sustainable way of living.

Having children is bad for the environment, especialy if the kids are white or asian, now that’s a whole different story, they produce 6 gorillion times more CO2 than african kids.

And i agree that we should care about the environment, and we don’t need more people on the planet. But the thing is, Europe does it very well or even too much, USA and Canada does it a little less, and then the rest of the world uses that to advantage and nothing changes except that the only countries that care about the environment are slowly falling.
