It's easier to have a TOR hidden service than a regular website or even a private server for self-hosting. With TOR:
- Connection is encrypted by default, no certificates needed.
- You don't have to pay for domain names, try to find a good name, and share your ID with registrar for glowies to know. There is like 1 or 2 registrars that let you rent a domain name without asking for your personal information, for additional price.
- You don't have to have fun with port forwarding on a router, or even buying a new one, if you want to self host.
- (((they))) can't shut down your domain. You own your domain name right on your device, not on registrar's site.
If you want to start a website and self-host, you should start with TOR, and then scale up instead of paying for all these services related to hosting a website upfront.
Hi, i'm peter griffin and this joke is about people that care about privacy put their government ID information when renting their domain name.
When renting most vps they ask you for credit card information, and then when renting a domain name you have to put your personal information, and then it is put to WHOIS database, and most registrars offer some "privacy" service, so they put their company information in the database, and give out your information when someone more special asks for it, like government/police. I haven't heard something more stupid in my life that privacy bros would advocate for.
