I tried steam for the first time on linux and i'm not impressed. I don't play online games, especially those with intrusive DRM. I still can't play all of the games on linux, some of them "indie games".
I only traded one DRM for another, just as bad. Memory usage is not any lower than on windows, because i need to run 2 launchers that connect to the internet and log in with 2 accounts to be able to play. It's nice that i don't have crap running directly on hardware.
The biggest argument for using it is viruses from pirated games, windows/games not having direct access to hardware, and doing normal computer tasks while playing.
Say what you want, but windows doesn't ask you for your personal infomation such as names and address, and you can play games without internet connection, game DRM, and the possibility of game developer or steam revoking access to the game you paid for. Whether that happens when the online servers are shut down, or you get banned for some stupid reason.
If you want to support something, support pirates and the cracks. This is the only way to own your games.
If money wouldn't be a problem, i would probably have a second desktop for gaming, like a console. If you can buy a console, then frankly you can buy a computer just for games, and install that weird windows operating system used only for games.
Linux gaymers
This is what you get when you don't use effective birth control. Nah, just kidding.
Some people get too excited for Steam. They completely forget steam is not in the spirit of free/open source. It's proprietary DRM garbage that didn't invent anything. Of course not everything they do is bad, there are some games without DRM on steam, and it's a decision of the evil developer to make it much worse. But remember, a broken clock is right twice a day.
Nice that they built it with linux instead of making a deal with microsoft, but it doesn't mean i have to support it.
Yeah, you need to give them more money for nothing, they will treat you better.
It almost felt like one time valve even tricked people into thinking that TF2 was open-sourced. Good PR, that i can't deny they know how to play with normies.
Lutris works with everything
Fortunately, almost all games, even pirated versions work in lutris. No need for steamy shit. It's not just a few clicks but worth. Weird how that information is uncommon in foss spaces. Perhaps it's not a good look to play pirated games as a bigger creator that can afford games anyway? In that case well, weird that youtubers control so much information in these communities.
